Recipe - Manhattan Clam Chowder Perricone's version

2 cups chopped onion
1 cup chopped up celery
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 cups clam broth
1 teaspoon thyme
1 bay leaf
35 ounce can of peeled and chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
2 15 ounce cans of chopped clams

Saute onions, celery in olive oil

Add everything except the clams and simmer 30 minutes

Add clams and simmer till hot.

Recipe - cuban black bean soup

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 medium green bell pepper chopped up
1 teaspoon dry or 1 tablespoon fresh parsley
4 cloves chopped garlic
1-1/2 quarts low salt chicken broth
5 ounces dry black beans
    ( rinsed, sorted, soaked over night)
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

heat oil over medium high heat, add onion, green pepper,
parsley, and garlic. saute for 6 minutes

add chicken broth, black beans, oregano, cumin and cayenne

bring to a boil, and reduce heat to low and let simmer
55 minutes (till beans are soft)

puree half the soup, 2 cups a ta time in a blender

Return puree to pot, and mix with the remain soup.

Stir over low heat till heated

Yield - 4-6 servings

Day 9 - Perricone Diet food plan

Perricone scallops with garlic and parsley

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves chopped garlic
1 pound scallops drained
2 tasblespoons chopped fresh parsley

saute oil and garilc, add scallops
saute scallops until browned and
put on a plate. sprinkle with parsley

yield - 3-4 servings.

perricone recipe - mediterranean salad

1 cucumber, peeled in 1/4" pieces
1 red bell pepper 1/4" pieces
3 stalks celery - 1/4" pieces
1 cup cherry tomatoes in quarters
2 tablespoons chopped red onion
2 tablespoons finely chopped FRESH parsley
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
6 black olives, in quarters
2 ounces feta cheese crumbles
2 tablespoons extra virgin oilve oil

Mix all in a glass or plastic bowl. Yeilds 4 servings.

Day 8 - Start Week 2 Perricone food

Perricone Prescription - end of first week

How do you feel? Its now the end of the first week of the program. The recipies are yummy, the food is plentiful. I feel very good eating like this.

Perricone recipe - Sauteed Zucchini or Squash

2 cloves of garlic chopped up
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
2 medium zucchini (slice lenghtwise)
1 tablespoon fresh dill

In a fring pan, saute the garlic in olive oil over medium heat

add sliced zucchini and make sure the zuch is covered
with oil and garlic

add fresh dill and LOWER the heat. Cover the pan for a
few to cook through.

yeild=3 servings!

Day 7 - End of week 1 Dr. Perricone food plan

Perricone menu - Cuban Bean Salad

15 ounces black beans (in a can) drained and rinsed
1/2 cup yellow bell peppers chopped
1/2 up red bell peppers choppped
1/2 cup chopped celery
2 tablespoons chopped red onion
1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped up
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 clove of crushed up garlic (peel it and take a big knife and smash it on the chopping board, then chop that up)
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
2 tablespoons extra virgine olive oil

toss the beans, yellow and red bell peppers, celery, onion and parsley

mix lemon juice, garlic and cumin

toss vegetables with the lemon/garlic/cumin dressing

wala! YUMMMMY

Perricone Recipe - Brussels Sprouts with Apples

1 pint burssles sprouts (whole)
1 apple cored and cut into eights
1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil

preheat oven to 375 degrees farenheight
in a large bowl, toss apples, brussels and oil together
cover a cookie sheet with foil, spread mixture evenly
roast uncovered 20 minutes

lift those weights, remember if you're just starting out you can use 2 pound weights, it doesn't have to be tons of weight!

Yummy Grilled Chicken Breasts

Here's a yummy grilled chicken breast Recipe
1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspon freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 clove garlic, chopped up
fresh rosemary to taste. I usually take a stalk
    and throw it in to the marinade
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
1 boneless, skinless whole chicken breast
    split this in two and flatten it so it will
    cook evenly

Wisk together olive oil,  lemon juice,
garlic and parsley, then add rosemary, stir

Pour over chicken breasts and marinate for a few hours

Cook on grill or pan broiler for 5 minutes each side.

Day 3 - Perricone Prescription Menu

I have had much better experience with chicken of the sea.)
  • 1 cup sliced tomatoes and cucumbers
  • 1/2 cup three-bean salad (see recipe post)

Snack for the Afternoon

  • 2 ounces sliced turkey breast

Chicken Vegetable Soup

2 cups onion chopped
2 tablespoons shopped parsley (fresh)
3 cloves chopped garlic
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 cup shredded fresh spinach
6 cups chicken broth
2 skinless chicken breasts (boneless is best)
1 cup canned chopped/diced tomato
1 cup of canned navy beans drained. rinse first
1/2 cup of celery chopped
1 cup green beans (cut in bite size pieces)
1 cup sliced zuchini
2 cups shredded cabbage

put olive oil in stock pot over medium heat, when
warm, add onion, stir, then add garlic and parsleey.

add cabbage and cook until the cabbage is soft.

Add green beans, navy beans, celery, tomato,
zucchini, broth and chicken

simmer for 30 minutes, keep lid on to keep flavor
and nutrition in the soup

add spinach last and cook for another minute.

Its ready to serve! You can top with 1 tablespoon
of pesto (see recipe)

Recipe - Bean Salad

3 Bean Salad

16 ounces garbanzo Beans (canned) 16 ounces kidney beans in a can 16 ounces black beans in a can Dressing: 2 cloves garlic chopped up Lemon Juice from one lemon (USE fresh only!) 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil in a bowl, mix all beans together In a cup mix the garlic, lemon, and oilve oil Put the Dressing on the beans, chill and serve. Pretty darn easy!

The dreaded Exercise for the Perricone Prescription Diet

Here's the recommended exercise Plan

I know you're all just dying to know what the exercise requirements are for the Perricone Prescription, and here they are.

Its recommended that you set aside at least twenty minutes (20) each day for your aerobics or weight training workout. Now don't forget to add warmup and cool down time!)

  • Pick a time of day that is convenient - this should be a stress free activity! There is no guesswork here, every day the type of exercise is outlined and indicated on the program.
  • Don't get in a rut. Work out at a different time and vary the location to make it interesting. Whatever works best for your schedule.
  • The diet calls for 20 minutes each day of aerobic activity, however, you may need to vary this due to your individual abilities. If regular exercise is already part of what you do, you may not need to work out daily.
  • You'll need the following stuff for your daily workout
    • Absorbent socks that are well cushioned.
    • Good workout shoes with arch support as well as ankle support.
    • breathable clothes such as "Cool Max" and the like. Make sure you have coomfortable clothes and not too tight.
    • Get some dumbbells and some ankle weights. If you're new to weight training, start using 2 pound weights.
    • Be comfortable. An exercise mat (while not required) can be a great comfort.
  • You don't need heavy duty exercise to be fit. Just do something every day, even if its just walking. The benefits of moving your body are tremendous, not to mention such a great way to release your stress.
  • Make a commitment to yourself!! Give this diet a chance! Do the whole 28 days. Chances are you'll make a lifelong change because you'll feel so good.

Perricone - Face Finishing Moisturizer

For moisturizing your face and neck while under the 28 day diet (and beyond actually), Dr. Perricone recommends Face Finishing Moisturizer.

This is a moisturizer that contains Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vitamin C Ester, and DMAE. This has such an incredible gentle Rose scent. (Ok, I'm partial to the smell of real rose essential oil!)

I believe they use real rose essential oil in this product. Appropriate for all skin types, but recommended for normal/dry skin.

I was euphoric when I first smelled this product due to the scent of real rose. Not the phony soapy imitation rose scent that you often smell with candles and popouri, but real pure rose essential. If you are interested in essential oils, please see my Rose Oil blog that I am beginning. (I wish I could do everything at one time, however good things and information take time! So if you click the link and there is not anything in it yet, please check back or email me!). I love this moisturizer. It made my skin feel so moist but not oily. The only thing that I had a problem with was that I had two bottles of it, and opened both. This product does not have a preservative in it and it started changing scent. Therefore with this one, please keep it in a cool dark place and don't open more than one at a time! The Perricone counter lady was happy to exchange the one that changed, she gave me a new bottle so I did not lose any product. I'm not sure but I think refrigeration of this might be even better.

My Results

I enjoyed the feeling of my skin not feeling tight, and not feeling too oily. You know the perfect balance of the skin is happy and so is your makeup, things don't slide off you! In continuing listing the recommended skin care products while on the 28 day perricone prescription diet, if you're going to use a lip plumper, Dr. Perricone recommends: Alpha Lipoic Acid Lip Plumper.

Ok everyone, I have tried probably every single lip plumper on the market. Some were okay... but this one is the BOMMMMMMB!! First, I love the creamcicle taste.. Remember when we were kids the orange popcicle thing with ice cream in the middle. Well this tastes like that. (I guess you'd call it like orange sherbert). So its a nice treat to taste.... But its also a nice treat for the delicate skin on your lips.

Perricone - Alpha Lipoic Acid and Vitamin C Ester Eye Area Therapy

Continuing with what skincare products Dr. Perricone recommends for use during the 28 day diet, the next two are separate products but related. Alpha Lipoic Acid and Vitamin C Ester Eye Area Therapy. These two products alone got me started using Dr. Perricone's products in January 2002, and to this day I use them faithfully.

My experience with ALA Eye Area Therapy and Vitamin C Ester Eye Area Therapy

I started with two products, the first being Alpha Lipoic Acid Eye Area Therapy and Vitamin C Ester Eye Area Therapy. This post will concentrate on my experiences with the eye products (which were nothing short of miraculous!).

The Eye treatment contains Vitamin C Ester, NTP. This Vitamin C Ester and Tocotrienol solution is formulated to provide care to the delicate tissue surrounding the eye. Using this unique serum, especially when used in conjuction with Alpha Lipoic Acid Eye Area Therapy, helps to provide complete eye care. The appearance of fine lines and puffiness are diminished with continued use.

For my regeme, I put a dab of the Alpha Lipoic Eye area treatment on my hand, then put 1-2 drops of the vitamin C Ester, mixed them up and applied this mix to the eye contour following carefully the eye bone above and below. I tried to be careful to avoid getting it in my eyes and on the eyelid.

Now this product is different because you mix the two products to get the best effect. The ladies at the Perricone counters insist that you mix this in the little skin between the index finger and the thumb. There is a little pouch there that is perfect because the skin there will not absorb the products in that area. Then when applying to your face, please do not rub it in hard!. It drives me crazy when I see people rubbing their delicate face and eye skin. Understand that it is NOT necessary because once you apply it to the skin, it is absorbed and your cells will move the chemicals thru the inter-cellular fluid. So be gentle people!

Alpha Lipoic Acid Eye Area Therapy

This treatment provides intensive care to the delicate tissue surrounding the eye. The NTP Complex (containing DMAE) and alpha lipoic acid, are suspended in a rich phospholipid base that helps to ensure the appearance of restorative and hydrating effects. The appearance of puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines are diminished with continued use.

I used this twice daily and as mentioned above, I put a couple drops of the Vitamin C Ester in it and then applied it to my eyes.

My Results

Well I followed my regeme every day for 3 months. After the first couple of weeks I noticed the crepieness on the lid was much diminished, also, the dark circles were fading. I tend to have puffy under eyes, and that was much more dramatic. The puffieness seemed to be so diminished I couldn't believe that.

That kept me going, so faithfully I used the 2 items. You would not believe, one day in March, I noticed, my lash line was lifted. I was so stoaked, dancing around the room because man, it really opened up my eyes.

Then I was really frustrated, because geez, I should have used the other products in his line all along! I would be 3 months ahead of the game had I just started everything at the same time.

Summary

I love these eye products. I have referred many of my friends, who are experiencing similar results as these. Also, my eyes look very nice now. I highly recommend these products for your eyes.

My eyes have never looked better in my life!

Perricone - Alpha Lipoic Acid Face Firming Activator

Dr. Perricone recommends the ALA Face Firming Activator for your face treatment. You use this morning and night. Here are my notes on my experience using the ALA Face Firming Activator.

Face Firming Activator

This is the other morning treatment I used containing ALA, glycolic acid, and DMAE. This should be combined with a moisturizer/sunscreen. Apply 1-2 pumps to the entire face and neck, avoiding contact with eyes. 2 oz. pump bottle.

This daily lotion, which unites the benefits of alpha lipoic acid, NTP Complex (containing DMAE) and glycolic acid, improves the appearance of the skin's resilience, tone, and texture. The appearance of enlarged pores, scaring, and discolorations of the skin are minimized with continued use.

Apply 1-2 pumps to the entire face and neck, avoiding contact with eyes.

How I used this product

I used this product every morning, after washing and toning my face. Again, I used one pump (only one pump, you don't need more than that!) and spread it all around my face, neck, and chest area. This product goes a long way so you don't have to use tons of it! The product size is a generous 2 ounces and if you use it right it will easily last 8 or more months!

My Results

Well, I must say that this product really works. First, I had some dark discolorations that were cleared up pretty readily and my skintone has been amazing. My cheeks feel so full, and don't look loose and stuff like 45 year old faces generally do. (Especially fair skinned!).

This product seems to be perfect for normal-dry and combination skin, the alpha lipoic acid and gentle alpha hydroxy acids work to minimize enlarged pores, while reducing the appearance of scarring and discolorations in the skin (this aspect was especially noticable on me since I had a hugely red tone to my skin. My experience with Alpha Lipoic Acid Nutritive Cleanser

Here's the cleanser I started with. I find the pump pumps way too much to use at any one time, so be careful to just pump 1/4 of the way down! I really love this stuff. I remember being at the Nordstrom's Dr. Perricone sales counter talking to Olivia when this Kuaitie woman came by with her daughter. She was in a wheelchair and her skin was quite blotchy and dull. Perricon Diet - Skin Care Regieme

While on the 28 day diet, it is recommended that you clear your counters of harsh facial cleaners, astringents, old product or expired products.

Always do a patch test as instructed on the package insert when beginning to use any new product to ensure that the product causes no irritation or allergic reaction.

Topical products not included in the program for the 28 days should not be used in conjunction with recommended topicals, as irritation might result from the combination.

Be very cautious if you are on prescription medication (topical or other) and/or undergoing facial acid peels, dermabrasion or other aggressive dermatologic procedure, as irritation might result.

If you are undergoing dermabrasion please reconsider. This is exceptionaly harsh on the skin and really not necessary to do to your skin.

Perricone Diet - Nutritional Supplements

Dr. Perricone strongly recommends nutritional supplements for those on his food plan. Either the Weight Management or Skin and Total Body Supplements are recommended. The cool thing about these supplements are that they are pre-packaged and either package will serve you well.

Dr. Perricon recommends that you take two supplement packets daily: one right after breakfast, and one after lunch with at least 8 ounces of water. If you should experience stomach upset, you can take the first one after lunch, and the second one after dinner. I did not experience upset stomach so I cannot say much about that.

About Salmon

When I first started eating the Perricon Prescription way, I really was afraid to eat the salmon, I never enjoyed the taste of it before.
